Sock + Boot Drive

Leading up to the clinic we will have a sock + boot drive on Sunday 9/10 + Sunday 9/17.

We are primarily interested in collecting warm socks and used boots in good condition to distribute during the foot care. The shelter also has a special need for the following items: women’s underwear (especially small/medium), feminine pads, peanut butter, bandages, books, and canned soup as well as books and board games. Please bring them to church, we will have a box for donations in the entrance.

Trainings

Sometimes jumping into a ministry like this can feel really overwhelming, especially since the foot care is specialized. If you have a desire to help with foot care but don’t know where to start, Heidi will be offering trainings between services on Sunday 9/10 + Sunday 9/17. In these trainings she will show you how to use the tools and offer care during the clinics. You are also welcome to come to the clinics and not do foot care! There are lots of ways to help including helping in the kitchen, with the food bank, or simply spending time in conversation and offering a wam presence to mean street’s homeless guests.

Mean Street Ministry - Foot Care Clinic Overview

Foot care, and particularly foot wound care, is a huge need for homeless folks. Many of them spend hours of the day walking, sometimes shoes that aren’t fit for the weather, flimsy, or falling apart. Their feet are tired, frostbitten, or they have blisters or wounds, and sometimes they aren't able to reach their feet to inspect them. An Advent team (headed by Heidi Zavala) will be providing foot care to our homeless neighbors at Mean Street Shelter. At this event, we will provide a chance for people coming off the street to soak their feet, provide basic foot care and give them a new pair of socks.
