Becoming Human: Anselm Society Event

  • Church of the Advent 678 King Street Denver, Colorado, 80204 United States (map)

Join us for the third lecture in the Becoming Human: Love, Virtue, and Personhood in C.S. Lewis’ The Magician’s Nephew lecture series, featuring Dr. Adam Pelser, Professor of Philosophy at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

In one of the most memorable scenes in The Magician’s Nephew, C.S. Lewis describes Aslan’s creation of the land of Narnia through a kind of song. While some characters are overwhelmed by the beauty of Aslan’s creation song, others find it nearly unbearable. Lewis uses this scene to remind readers that “what you see and hear depends on where you are standing: it also depends on what sort of person you are.”

In this talk, we will reflect on the traits of moral character that enable us to see (and hear) the good, the true, and the beautiful, and we will consider how we might grow in that sort of character through moral and spiritual formation.

The evening opens with a reception, followed by an artistic time, and continues with the lecture.

Admission is free. Donations are gratefully accepted to help cover event costs.
