We are an Anglican Church in the Villa Park neighborhood in south-west Denver.  We seek to share in the life of God together by re-defining and re-orienting everything around the gospel of Jesus Christ. We follow a liturgical form of worship and welcome friends, neighbors, and strangers alike.

Small Groups 2017

Small Groups

At Church of the Advent, the ongoing work of growing in relationship with God, each other, and the world happens in Small Groups.  Small Groups are simply an "extended family learning to live out the gospel together."

North - City Park Group (Mondays 7-8:35pm)

Led and Hosted by: John and Sara Knippa (Denver)

We are a group of singles and couples committed to creating authentic community.  This year we are encountering the Psalms and prayer, since “There is no aspect of the interior life…no spiritual need…that is not lived out in the Psalms” (Thomas Merton).  We welcome new members!

North - Metro Group (Tuesdays 6:30pm)

Led by: Matt Grajcar and Nick Roseveare

Hosted by: Matt and Brianna Grajcar (Westminster)

This semester we will read through Presence and Encounter by David Benner. Benner provides a simple but profound guide to experiencing the presence of Christ (even in absence) in everyday life. Every day holds sacramental possibilities if only we learn by God's grace to be present and to authentically encounter and dialogue with each other and with God.We are really excited to meet people new to Advent, as well as those who have been around and are looking for deeper community.

Villa Park-Barnum Group (Every other Tuesday 6:30-8pm)

Led and Hosted by: Huck and Loyce Burns (Barnum)

We will focus on an in-depth exploration of missions, both to Villa Park and its surrounding neighborhoods and to a developing country (in Latin America).  We will read and discuss the book The Power of Proximity, by Michelle Warren, and the scriptures as they pertain to missions and evangelism.  We will delve into how to cross racial, cultural, language and socio-economic barriers to earn trust, build relationship, and meet people at their physical and spiritual points of need.  As the Lord leads us, we will move from exploration and awareness into action.

South Group (Sundays 5:30-7pm)

Led by: Jeromie and Liz Rand

Hosted by: Kyle and Karen Collins (Denver) [Except for the last Sunday of each month, when the Rands will host (Littleton)]

Our group began by studying a book about Christian hospitality, and a desire to put that into practice undergirds our time together. Our meetings make space for sharing, scripture, prayer, and study, but our greatest strengths lie in a shared gift of presence and a persistent reminder that God is with us. Once a month, we take a break from our regular rhythms to share a meal and celebrate what God is doing among us.

West - Zuni Casa Group (Every other Sunday 4:30-6:30pm)

Led by: Matt Allen, Jason Rhine, and Michelle Stefun

Hosted by: Dan and Jen Myers (Denver)

We are walking through the Gospel of John together, with a little help from N.T. Wright.  Our group also includes intentional elements where we dive into each other's stories, walk through the Christian calendar and various disciplines together, and ultimately, seek to create a safe space where we can heal and grow in Christ. Our group is currently at capacity due to size.

East Group (Sundays 5-7pm)

Led by: Jess & Sara Bartley, Josh & Danielle Williams

Hosted by: Jess and Sara Bartley (Denver)

Our group focus is spiritual transformation through relationships. This semester we are journeying together through books by David Benner and Henri Nouwen that explore themes pertaining to living an authentic Christian life. Our group is currently at capacity due to size.
