We are an Anglican Church in the Villa Park neighborhood in south-west Denver.  We seek to share in the life of God together by re-defining and re-orienting everything around the gospel of Jesus Christ. We follow a liturgical form of worship and welcome friends, neighbors, and strangers alike.

Small Groups 2017

Small Groups

At Church of the Advent, the ongoing work of growing in relationship with God, each other, and the world happens in Small Groups.  Small Groups are simply an "extended family learning to live out the gospel together."

North - City Park Group (Mondays 7-8:35pm)

Led and Hosted by: John and Sara Knippa (Denver)

Starts September 18th

We will include a core of members from the McGowans’ group from last year, with space to welcome new people.  We will begin the fall semester encountering the Psalms and prayer, since “There is no aspect of the interior life, … no spiritual need… that is not lived out in the Psalms.” (Thomas Merton)

North - Metro Group (Tuesdays 6:30pm)

Led by: Matt Grajcar and Nick Roseveare.

Hosted by: Matt and Brianna Grajcar (Westminster)

Starts September 11th

This semester we will read through the "Gospel in Life" study by Tim Keller (details here: http://www.gospelinlife.com/gospel-in-life). The study focuses on “the gospel and how it is lived out in all of life— first in our hearts, then in community, and out into the world.” Such topics as idolatry, community, work, justice, and eternity will be discussed. We are really excited to meet people new to Advent, as well as those who have been around and are looking for deeper community.

Villa Park-Barnum Group (Tuesdays 6:30-8pm)

Led and Hosted by: Huck and Loyce Burns (Barnum)

Starts September 13th

We will focus on an in-depth exploration of missions, both to Villa Park and its surrounding neighborhoods and to a developing country (in Latin America).  We will read and discuss the book The Power of Proximity, by Michelle Warren, and the scriptures as they pertain to missions and evangelism.  We will delve into how to cross racial, cultural, language and socio-economic barriers to earn trust, build relationship, and meet people at their physical and spiritual points of need.  As the Lord leads us, we will move from exploration and awareness into action.

South Group (Sundays 5:30-7pm)

Led by: Jeromie and Liz Rand

Hosted by: Kyle and Karen Collins (Denver) [Except for the last Sunday of each month, when the Rands will host (Littleton)]

Starts September 24th

We will incorporate elements of the Anglican evening prayer service into an evening that allows space for sharing, scripture, prayer, and study. We will be discussing the book Making Room: Recovering Hospitality as a Christian Tradition, which looks at how hospitality can be a central Christian practice and is not just limited to those times when we have the opportunity to entertain. Once a month, we will share a meal and celebrate what God is doing among us.

West - Zuni Casa Group (Sundays 4-6pm)

Hosted by: Dan and Jen Myers (Denver)

We will continue the group Dan and Tyler began last year with a group leadership approach. We are working out the details and believe we are at capacity.

East Group (Sundays 5-7pm)

Led by: Jess & Sara Bartley, Josh & Danielle Williams

Hosted by: The Bartley family Denver)

Starts September 10th

Our group focus is spiritual transformation through relationships.  This fall we will be experimenting with lectio divina, music, and prayer together.  This group was established in 2014 and is currently at capacity for the upcoming year.
