At Church of the Advent, the ongoing work of growing in relationship with God, each other, and the world happens in Small Groups. Small Groups are simply an "extended family learning to live out the gospel together."
North - Westminster Group (Tuesdays 6:30-8:45pm)
Led by: Matt Grajcar & Nick Roseveare
Hosted by: Matt & Brianna Grajcar, Nick & Teresa Roseveare
Our hope for our small group is that we will grow together as brothers and sisters in Christ and encourage each other in our individual walks with the Lord. Each week, we share a meal together before discussing faith-based books and the Bible. This semester we will be reading through NT Wright's study guide on the book of Revelation. "Many people today regard Revelation as the hardest book in the New Testament and find themselves tiptoeing with a sense that they don't really belong there, but they do! In fact, Revelation offers one of the clearest and sharpest visions of God's ultimate purpose for creation." For more information or to RSVP, please contact Nick Roseveare (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Brianna Grajcar (email@example.com). We will start meeting on September 18th.
North - City Park Group (Mondays 7-8:30pm)
Led and Hosted by: John & Sara Knippa
This group has a vision for creating an authentic community where we begin our week in God’s word and explore how it impacts our hearts and lives. This year we will practice the Evening Prayer liturgy and use Sacramental Life: Spiritual Formation Through the Book of Common Prayer by David DeSilva as a guide. For more information or to RSVP, please contact John (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Sara Knippa (email@example.com). Our group will start on September 10th.
Central - Congress Park Group (every other Sunday 5-7:30pm)
Led by: Jess & Sara Bartley, Josh & Danielle Williams
Hosted by: Jess and Sara Bartley
This group will meet every-other Sunday evening for dinner, prayer and discussion. Our focus is spiritual growth through community. Members will take turns providing dinner for the group, and everyone will be expected to read a section from our chosen book between meetings in preparation for our discussion time. This fall, we'll be reading Living Life Backward: How Ecclesiastes Teaches Us to Live in Light of the End, by David Gibson. The primary hosts are the Bartleys in Congress Park but there may be some rotation in hosting depending on interest. Due to the prolific nature of this group's existing members, we plan to keep childcare off-site this year (contact Danielle Williams for details: firstname.lastname@example.org). If you're interested in joining us please contact Sara Bartley (email@example.com). We will start meeting on September 9th.
Central - Cheesman Park Group (Wednesdays 7-8:30pm)
Led by: Stacey Brogan
Hosted by: Kiri & Jonathan Morken
This is a new group focused on building community and sharing our journeys with Christ. Our group will focus on encountering Christ in the Gospels through the spiritual discipline of Lectio Divina—a meditative, imaginative reading of a passage of Scripture with the purpose of hearing from God. Once a month, we will take a break from the normal routine to share dinner and connect. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Stacey Brogan (firstname.lastname@example.org). Our group will start on September 19th.
East - Aurora Group (Sundays 4-5:30pm)
Led and Hosted by: Libby & Mike Demmon
We will be exploring the riches of the Psalms: what they can tell us about biblical worship, personal prayer, history, and prophecy. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Libby (email@example.com) or Mike Demmon (firstname.lastname@example.org). Our group will start on September 16th.
Villa Park/Barnum Group (Tuesdays 6:30-8pm)
Led and Hosted by: Huck & Loyce Burns
The Villa Park Small Group will have a local mission focus and will actively seek out ways to build relationship and invite our neighbors to participate. Through the leading of the Holy Spirit, we will seek out opportunities to practice hospitality, ask neighbors to be a part of our small group, build trust in relationship, eventually share the Gospel, and ultimately invite people of the neighborhood to become a part of our Church family. Group members will encourage each other in prayer and the Word of God as we step out in faith and courage to reach out with the love of Christ in Villa Park and surrounding neighborhoods. For more information, please contact Huck (HBurns@denrescue.org) or Loyce Burns (email@example.com). We will start meeting on September 18th.
West - Zuni Casa Group (three Sundays a month 4:30-6:30pm)
Led by: Jason Rhine, Cindy & Brad Hamilton
Hosted by: Dan & Jen Myers
We will be walking through the Galatians together with a little help from N.T. Wright. Our group also includes intentional elements where we dive into each other's stories, walk through the Christian calendar and various disciplines together, and ultimately seek to create a safe space where we can heal and grow in Christ. We will meet at Dan and Jen's two times a month to connect and study Galatians. We will also take one Sunday a month to gather for a family dinner (potluck) at the Hamilton's. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Cindy Hamilton (firstname.lastname@example.org). Our group will start on September 9th.
South Group (Tuesdays 6-7:30pm)
Led and Hosted by: Jeromie & Liz Rand
Our group will meet weekly for fellowship, prayer, study, and a monthly shared meal. We're planning to read Getting Involved with God: Rediscovering the Old Testament by Ellen F. Davis. The book will hopefully invite us to discover portions of our Bible that are oft overlooked and lead us into deeper practices of faith and a closer intimacy with God. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Jeromie Rand (Jeromie@adventdenver.com). We will start meeting on September 11th.
