At Church of the Advent, the ongoing work of growing in relationship with God, each other, and the world happens in Small Groups. Small Groups are simply an "extended family learning to live out the gospel together."
Our Small Groups are taking a break for the summer. Instead, join us for Summer Studies on Parenting or the Enneagram. Detailed information here.
North - Westminster Group (Tuesdays 6:30-8:45pm)
Led by: Matt Grajcar & Nick Roseveare
Hosted by: Matt & Brianna Grajcar, Nick & Teresa Roseveare
Our hope for our small group is that we grow together as brothers and sisters in Christ and encourage each other in our individual walks with the Lord. Each week, we share a meal together before discussing faith-based books and the Bible. We are currently reading through NT Wright's study guide on the book of Revelation. "Many people today regard Revelation as the hardest book in the New Testament and find themselves tiptoeing with a sense that they don't really belong there, but they do! In fact, Revelation offers one of the clearest and sharpest visions of God's ultimate purpose for creation." For more information or to RSVP, please contact Nick Roseveare (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Brianna Grajcar (email@example.com).
North - City Park Group (Mondays 7-8:30pm)
Led and Hosted by: John & Sara Knippa
This group has a vision for creating an authentic community where we begin our week in God’s word and explore how it impacts our hearts and lives. Currently, we are focusing on encountering Jesus in the Gospels. We are engaging the practice of lectio divina with a different Scripture passage each time we meet, using the passages chosen by Tim Keller in his book, "Encounters with Jesus." For more information or to RSVP, please contact John (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Sara Knippa (email@example.com).
Central - Congress Park Group (every other Sunday 5-7:30pm)
Led by: Jess & Sara Bartley, Josh & Danielle Williams
Hosted by: Jess and Sara Bartley
This group meets every-other Sunday evening for dinner, prayer and discussion. Our focus is spiritual growth through community. Members take turns providing dinner for the group, and everyone is expected to read a section from our chosen book between meetings in preparation for our discussion time. We are reading Mansions of the Heart: Exploring the Seven Stages of Spiritual Growth, by Thomas Ashbrook. Because of space constraints, childcare for this group is at another member’s house a few blocks away (contact Danielle Williams for details: firstname.lastname@example.org). If you're interested in joining us please contact Sara Bartley (email@example.com).
Central - Cheesman Park Group (Wednesdays 7-8:30pm)
Led by: Stacey Brogan
Hosted by: Kiri & Jonathan Morken
This group focuses on building community and sharing our journeys with Christ. We are engaging the Psalms through the spiritual discipline of Lectio Divina—a meditative, imaginative reading of a passage of Scripture with the purpose of hearing from God. We are also actively learning about a variety of spiritual disciplines that help us open to God—drawing on Adele Calhoun’s book, Spiritual Disciplines Handbook. Once a month, we take a break from the normal routine to have some fun and connect. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Stacey Brogan (firstname.lastname@example.org).
West - Zuni Casa Group (three Sundays a month 4:30-6:30pm)
Led by: Jason Rhine, Cindy & Brad Hamilton
Hosted by: Dan & Jen Myers
Our group is studying Ecclesiastes—walking through the book Living Life Backward: How Ecclesiastes Teaches Us to Live in Light of the End, by David Gibson. Our group also includes intentional elements where we dive into each other's stories, walk through the Christian calendar and various disciplines together, and ultimately seek to create a safe space where we can heal and grow in Christ. We meet at Dan and Jen's two times a month to connect and study Galatians. We also take one Sunday a month to gather for a family dinner (potluck) at the Hamilton's. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Cindy Hamilton (email@example.com).
South Group (Tuesdays 6-7:30pm)
Led and Hosted by: Jeromie & Liz Rand
Our group meets weekly for fellowship, prayer, study, and a monthly shared meal. We're reading Getting Involved with God: Rediscovering the Old Testament by Ellen F. Davis. This book invites us to discover portions of our Bible that are oft overlooked and lead us into deeper practices of faith and a closer intimacy with God. For more information, or to RSVP, please contact Jeromie Rand (Jeromie@adventdenver.com).
