Farewell Picnic with the McGowan Family
July 16th, at Barnum Park, following morning service
Such bittersweet goodbyes deserve to be observed with lemonade and sunshine. Please bring a picnic lunch for your family and join us as we celebrate all that God has done during the McGowan's time at Advent. If you haven't had a chance to read Andy and Rob's letters regarding this transition, you can read them here.
We are having an Advent supper club! Here's an opportunity to get to know people that you've seen across the church but haven't made your way over to during passing of the peace: it's called Dinner for Eight. On Friday, June 16, at 6:30 pm, various dinners will be held simultaneously in different homes throughout the city. Please sign up if you are able to host or attend. Hosts will be contacted on Monday June 12 and they will contact their attendees by Wednesday June 14 with directions to the home and instructions on what to bring. Hosts will provide the main dish and will ask attendees to bring a side, beverage, or dessert.

Church Work Day
Saturday, May 20th from 9am - 12pm
Advent believes that to spread the gospel effectively in Villa Park we need to be good neighbors. One of the ways we express this value is by caring well for our building and the land around it. This Spring we plan to upgrade the landscaping around the outside of the church building. There is much work to do and we need your help! Join us for a day of community building manual labor.
Please bring gloves and landscaping tools if you have them.
Cold lemonade and lunch will be provided.
See you there!
Child Led Service, May 14th
God has blessed Advent with so many great kids!
We want to encourage them to love Christ and his church and to love serving others. One of the ways we do that is by inviting them to lead us in liturgical worship. Enjoy this special Sunday and encourage our kids with your presence on May 14th!
If your kids haven’t signed up to serve e-mail Jennie this week firstname.lastname@example.org
Join us for the best brunch of the year!!

Easter Sunday Service begins at 10AM!
The name Taizé comes from an ecumenical monastery founded during WW2 in Taizé, France. Today the community is home to monks of more than thirty nationalities and receives about 100,000 visitors from around the world each year to work, study and pray. Their multi-lingual identity has inspired a unique form of worship in which participants sing short verses repeatedly in a contemplative spirit. You can also expect periods of silence, Scripture readings, and prayers. Advent’s service will be held in candlelight, led by a pianist.
Although our church ordinarily welcomes the sounds of children in our services, please do not bring children into this particular service unless they are able to participate quietly.
Our childcare staff will arrive at 6:30pm for those who’d like to come early to get settled.
Questions? Contact Sara Bartley: email@example.com
Parents, this brunch is for you! We would love the opportunity to share with you about the exciting things your kids are doing in Advent’s Children’s Ministry. We want to take time to celebrate and support the important role you play in the lives of your children.
This will be a great chance to fellowship and be encouraged with other parents as we journey together in raising Children who fully participate with the gospel.

We have celebrated some beautiful seasons together lately.
Through Christmas and the Epiphany we took time to recognize and celebrate Christ's coming.
It is equally important that we take time to acknowledge the somber seasons of our Church calendar. It is important that set aside time to recognize the darkness around us and within us, this invites us to more fully understand our need for salvation and the joyful light of Christ in our lives.
On March 1st we will begin the lenten season of fasting and penitence
with Ash Wednesday service.
We invite you to come broken, somber or still on the heels of the joys of Christmas and Epiphany, to a service of preparation for the 40 days of lent.
Ladies, Let's Hangout!
We will meet at InTea in Old Littleton: 10:30 to 11:30.
Everyone is encouraged to bring some money to buy a pot of tea.
We also encourage you to bring a book you read and loved (used condition is fine with us, unless you just can't part with the copy you have!) You will have an opportunity to swap books with anyone you'd like!
Then for those who can join us we will walk down to Grace Full Cafe also in Old Littleton, a non-profit cafe, for breakfast. Grace Full only serves breakfast on Saturday.
They have a breakfast burrito or granola, yogurt and fruit bowl or a special of the day, each of these is $5.00. Their home made cinnamon roll is $3.00.
They also have a coffee menu. (Yum).

We will get to hear Rob's vision for the coming year, discuss a new member covenant, and vote on new vestry members.
We hope you will plan to join us for this important time.
Lunch will be provided
At Church of the Advent, we welcome the celebration of the Christmas season by orienting our minds and hearts around the story of Jesus.
This first Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols service in our new home will be an especially beautiful time of worship and celebration.

November 19th 9am-1pm
Naomi Wolf argues in The Beauty Myth, that unattainable standards of physical beauty create an ideology that undermines women both psychologically and politically, allowing a form of patriarchy to flourish. In the midst of all the noise, what does the gospel have to say about our bodies, false shame and where freedom can truly be found? Come join the women of Advent for an in-depth and thoughtful conversation that extends far beyond the question of ... “does this make me look fat?”
Facilitated by Kendis Paris
Come early for coffee and biscuits and gravy!
Please r.s.v.p. to Elizabeth at Elizabeth@adventdenver.com
The crisp fall air is here and it is time to rake and bake! Join us as we serve Villa Park by raking leaves and sharing baked goods in the neighborhood. We will eat a light lunch after morning service and then go out into the neighborhood armed with rakes, smiles and baked treats.
